A tiny leak can grow quickly and cause major problems with your water circulating system. It is easy to check for these minor leaks.
Fixtures
Check all pool lights and decorative fixtures in your pool. A loose conduit or light attachment is easy to repair.
You may have decorative tile inside your pool. Check the grouting around the tiles for cracks and fissures. Water can seep into cracks in grouting and work underneath the tiles. Tiles that pull away from the surface of the pool may weaken or crack the pool surface where they were attached. Little cracks grow to leaks with water pressure.
Check the handles and railings that may be attached to your pool's steps. This includes hand railings leading into hot tubs. The railings should be tight and not wobble when they are held.
Another area to check for pool leaks is joint work where the steps meet the bottom of the pool or spa tub. A small crack or fissure can expand quickly.
Pool surfaces
Vinyl pools are subject to tearing. This includes in-ground as well as above-ground pools in frames and decking. Run your fingertips over the surface of the pool to check for little tears that can cause problems.
Fiberglass pools can also have cracks that spread quickly since the material is very brittle. Fiberglass pools are very durable, yet they can sustain cracks at areas where fixtures, such as lights, are attached to the material.
Pool skimmer assemblies should be secured to the side of the pool. Drain covers must also be secure. Check these items along with the intake and outflow lines. Air bubbles in the intake valve are a sign of leakage. Water on the floor of your pump room is an indication of a leak in the system, including the outflow lines.
Excess water on the decking or ground around the pool area suggests an underground leak in the piping.
Use the simple bucket test to check for pool leaks. If this test confirms a substantial water loss, call Aquaman Leak Detection for repairs. Aquaman has a patented sonar system that will find underground leaks without tearing up your decking and lawns. Special equipment will be used to drill a small hole to reach the pinpointed leak for repairs.
Aquaman will make repairs to cracks in all pool surfaces, often working underwater. You do not have to empty your pool to fix drains and structural cracks.
Most in-ground pools in Florida should not be emptied unless there is no other way to make repairs. The peninsula has a high water table in most areas and an empty pool shell could actually "float" if the ground is saturated. Water in a pool, filled to the proper level, equalizes the pressure necessary to keep it securely in the ground. This is especially true with fiberglass and vinyl pools.
Aquaman has trained technicians who specialize in repairing different pool surfaces. Contact us for more information on repairs throughout Central and South Florida as well as Southern California and Houston Texas.
